Our History

In 1987, Carol Coover-Clark entered into a cooperative business relationship with another licensed architect in Oklahoma City.  This association was the early forerunner to CooverClark and provided Carol with fundamental design and construction experience in many of the project types in which the company excels today.

Carol relocated to Denver in 1989 when she established Coover-Clark & Associates as a Professional Corporation.  The first office location was the entire basement level of her home…until the staff size reached an unwieldy (at least in the neighborhood) size and she decided to move the offices to Englewood, CO.  Notable projects in the 90’s included serving as a sub consultant for the Michael Graves-lead Denver Central Library project in the Denver Civic Center and a myriad of concession and operational projects at the soon to be new Denver International Airport.  Among the airport projects was the planning and architectural design assignments for a majority of the car rental agencies to be located at DEN.  Although consolidation of rental car operations was not feasible in Denver at that time, the experience of representing a majority of the rental car industry at a major
airport lead to the development of expertise in an emerging building type,  the Consolidated Rental Car Facility.   CooverClark went on to program, plan, and design a number of CONRACs, and other rental car facilities, throughout the USA.

In 2000, the CooverClark offices were moved to Denver.  The early part of the 2000’s witnessed dozens of major airport CONRAC assignments including Phoenix, Kansas City, and New Orleans.  This period also saw the company break into other types of aviation projects, both commercial and
military.  The firm established an expertise in the design of training and maintenance facilities for Blackhawk, Chinook, and Lakota helicopters that lead to high profile commissions in Colorado, Delaware, New Mexico, Illinois, Nebraska, and Wyoming.

In 2006, the company amended the articles of incorporation and became Coover-Clark & Associates, Inc.  That year also saw the Principals of the company purchase the current home of the firm, 1936 Market Street in Lower Downtown Denver.  Important military projects of the era included architectural design of regional new training facilities and readiness centers for the National Guard.  The firm has continued to excel at the innovative design of training centers and has now planned and designed more than twenty-five readiness centers in over ten States.

In recent years, the CooverClark has expanded its presence in military and other Federal project types by winning on-call architectural contracts with the US Air Force, the US Postal Service, the US Department of Agriculture, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and the National Guard Bureau.  For the US Department of Labor, a new multi-facility Jobs Corps campus was planned, designed, and constructed.  Prominent aviation architectural assignments have included the design of new Passenger Terminals at Pierre, SD and Minot, ND and a multi-year on-call architectural services contract for Denver International Airport. The company has added design/build to the catalog during this period and was the design lead for a double-bay B-52 hangar and maintenance center for the US Air Force, a major renovation of the historic Building 3 at the National Institute of Standards and Technology campus in Boulder, and a Technical Unmanned Air Vehicle Facility in Oregon.
